You need to follow some steps to acquire Driving License in State of Maryland:

Applying for New Driving License in State of Maryland: Basic requirements to acquire driving license from Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) of Maryland are:

• You must appear in person at MVA.
• You must provide age proof. You must be minimum 15 years and nine months old.
• You must provide two residential proofs.
• You must provide Social Security number.
• You must clear vision test and written test.
• You must identify road signs.

Permit holders need to obey some instructions. Maryland issues two types of learner’s permit:

• Type one permit is issued to a candidate aged at least 15 years and nine months. The validity of this permit is one year. The candidate should hold this type of permit at least for six months. If you are below 18, then you need parental consent. You need to go through graduated program.
• Type two permit is issued to a candidate aged at least 16 years and one month. The validity of this permit is six months. The candidate should hold this type of permit at least for 14 days. If you are below 18, then you need parental consent. You do not need to go through graduated program.

First time applicants compulsorily need to take the driver education course. The course should be completed prior to driving test. If you are new to the state, then you need to apply for the Maryland license within 60 days. You need to visit MVA office in person. You need to submit previous state license, provide birth certificate, two identification proofs and Social Security number. You need to clear vision test as well. Fees range from $30-$50.

Renewing Driving License in State of Maryland: You need to renew your driving license every five years. MVA sends you reminder 60 days before the expiration of your driving license. You can visit MVA and get your license renewed. You need to provide reminder post card, old license and Social Security number. You also need to clear vision test. You can also renew by mail but only if you are below 40 years of age. Your reminder post card will have a note if you are eligible for renewal of license through mail. You will even have some questions along with the note. If your reply for all the questions is “No”, then you can continue with the process by mail. Renewal fee is $30 for both the processes.

Replacing a Lost Driving License in State of Maryland: You need to appear in person at MVA office, if you misplace your driving license. You need to provide identification proofs, Social Security number and $20 fee. You may need to appear for vision test. If you are out of state and misplace your driving license there, then you can call an MVA representative at (800) 950-1682 for requesting duplicate license.

Changing Name on Driving License in State of Maryland: You need to provide legal proof of name change and your current license at MVA office.
