Driving License in State of Pennsylvania

You need to follow some steps to acquire Driving License in State of Pennsylvania:

Applying for New Driving License in State of Pennsylvania: You should provide documents and pass the necessary tests to acquire driving license from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). You must be at least 16 years old to be eligible to operate a vehicle in Pennsylvania. If you are less than 18 years, then complete the Noncommercial Learner’s Permit Application and get the parental consent. You also need to provide identification proof and Social Security card. If you are over 18 years, only then you should provide residency proof. Clear the vision test, written test and pay $5 fee. This permit is valid for one year and allows you to drive under some restrictions.

After you have held the permit for six months, you can apply for junior license. Submit your learner’s permit, certificate of supervised driving practice, insurance proof of car and license of a person accompanying you for the driving test. After passing all the tests, you will get the four years license. You can apply for regular driving license once you turn 17 ½ years old. Else your junior license automatically converts to four year regular driving license. But for getting updated license, you need to fill the Application for Change from a Junior Driver’s License to a Regular Noncommercial License and pay the $10 fee.

If you are new to Pennsylvania, then you must apply in person at Driver License Center for acquiring driving license. You should submit old license, citizenship proof, two proofs of residency, Social Security card and fee of $26.

Renewing Driving License in State of Pennsylvania: You need to renew your license every four years but if you are above 65 years old, then you need to renew it every two years. PennDOT notifies you several weeks before the expiration of your driving license. You can renew your license either by mail or online. You need to provide the information asked by the PennDOT’s online site and you will receive camera card within 10 days. Take this card to Photo Center along with the Social Security card and one identity proof to get new digitalized license. You can even send completed license renewal form to PennDOT Bureau of Driver Licensing along with fee. You will receive camera card within 10 days by mail. The renewal fee can vary in the range of $15-$46 depending upon the type of license.

Replacing a Lost Driving License in State of Pennsylvania: To get your duplicate driving license, you can mail the notarized completed Noncommercial Driver’s License Application for Change/Correction/Replacement to PA Department of Transportation Bureau of Driver Licensing. Fee varies depending upon the camera card request.

Changing Name on Driving License in State of Pennsylvania: You need to notify PA Department of Transportation Bureau of Driver Licensing about your name change and mail the completed DL-80 form along with legal name change proof. No fee is charged.

Changing Address on Driving License in State of Pennsylvania: You need to inform PennDOT about your address change within 15 days. You can inform online or by mail. You need to submit completed Noncommercial Driver’s License Application for Change/Correction/Replacement to PA Department of Transportation Bureau of Driver Licensing. You will receive Driver’s License Update Card.
